ASTORIA DODGES BULLET BUT OTHER QUEENS AREAS WHIPPED BY POSSIBLE TORNADO
Scary moments for Astoria residents as the sky turned black just before 6 pm last night. A severe thunderstorm zoomed by in a matter of minutes. It spared Astoria's residents from damage but just a few miles away in Corona,Forest Hills, Flushing and Bayside it was a completely different story. Large trees ripped off the ground, damage to homes and vehicles and a fatality on the Grand Central Parkway led to traffic delays for hours on streets in Astoria leading towards Nassau County. Stay tuned to your local news for additional information.

FPG UPSET AFTER MURDER OVER LACK OF SECURITY AT ASTORIA PARK
In the 80's Astoria Park went through a transformation. Massive police presence ordered by Vallone Sr to crack down against loitering by juveniles and late night violent crowds. The outcome : the Park became quieter and cleaner with less violence. But last week, an orrendeous crime took place at the park at 4 am in the early moring. A mexican immigrant was beaten to death for a wallet by a couple living in the park. Astoria Park , the site for the Independence fireworks, just 2 weeks ago is also the place where families and couples go to have fun. But who hangs there at 4 am in the morning? " People should be careful at that time " said a Queens resident. FPG proposes some kind of silent security system over the park to alert police in case of inadequate trespassing." With technology there has to be some kind of cheap system that can create more safety over public land." he finalized.

Astoria, New York
You have probably have seen John Ciafone, or members of his staff, asking for your signature to put him on the ballot as he has beaten the heat on the streets of Astoria. He is running to fight the democratic political machine of Astoria, a powerful one indeed. It consists of members of the Democratic Taminent Club such as the Vallone Brothers or Mike Giannaris. " You don't go against the machine and plan to win. It's close to impossible. " commented one assistant of an Astorian Democratic politician. " John is an attorney and the only logical reasoning here is a publicity stunt to promote himself. It could be a lose - win scenario for him after this all set and done " said a banker. John Ciafone, Esq. is local attorney and real estate owner. He is married to Gina ( Jeanette ) Argento and has 2 boys with her." He believes in good quality of life and strong family morals. Its up to the voters as well as his speeches to decide his faith for September and November " finalized a voter from Queens.

SAL MARCHESE LEAVES ASTORIA , READIES FOR MONKS
End of year amid Spirituality for Sal Marchese. The singer will be the guest at a Benedictine monastery of Mount Etna.Back after three years from the last retreat at the hermitage of Camaldoli, in Tuscany, to relive the experience of a hermit, the Sicilian poet and singer Sal Marchese. The artist in fact, from 29 December 2009 to January 1, 2010, will be the guest of the Benedictine monks at a monastery located on the slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily. Most of the people of our time, says Marchese, care about their careers, to grow only from the professional, economic, and / or cultural; few strive to grow in spirit, in faith. But the 'man can not deny having a soul, and also the Spirit must be cultivated. Professional career, money and culture are not supported by the values of Christian faith and a deep, personal growth in the Spirit, can also lead, if living in the wrong way and / or excessive, destruction and anguish. This end of the year for me will be different from the usual "festive season" immersed in the confusion of the tables of restaurants, houses full of friends and relatives, and even in the noise of the crowded streets of cities. I live in Silence, in prayer and meditation. Away from the distractions of the world. Salvatore Marchese
during his 3 week stay in New York, has also performed at the Wine Bar Vino Divino in Astoria. You can visit www.salvatoremarchese.it for additional information.

ITALIAN AMERICAN FEDERATION OF QUEENS CLUB CELEBRATES WITH CHRISTMAS PARTY
*INSPECTOR MORBECK of the 114th JOINS FESTIVITIES WITH 2 OTHER OFFICERS
Astoria, New York
The Italian American Federation of Queens located in Astoria celebrated with its members a Christmas party with food and beverages. Joe Di Pietro, president of the organization invited the inspector of the 114th precinct to participate in the festivities. Inspector Morbeck, cited that crime went down a lot in his precinct in the last 2 years, thanks to his well trained officers and the people in the community. A member of the Federation complained of a traffic ticket for him. He pointed out that the ticket was unjust. Some people have argued that officers or traffic agents are very quick and don't give a chance to motorists in vehicles by advising them ahead of a potential ticket. Inspector Morbeck advised the members to tell Joe Di Pietro any problems or issues in the community. After the little discussion, it was time to eat some italian food made by Rocco's Catering. Meeting at the Federation take place usually every second Tuesday of the month at 8 pm.

ASTORIA PARK FIREWORKS DRAW LARGE CROWD
Astoria, New York
It may be still June, but not in Astoria. A fireworks show at the Astoria Park on Shore Boulevard drew a large crowd willing to see a show on rain free day. The firework display began at 9.15 pm, a bit too early because of the light skies, and ended just about 25 to 30 minutes later. The crowds surrounded Astoria Park as motorists blocked streets in tha adjoining area. This year, Astorians will not enjoy the Macy's fireworks on July 4th because they will be displayed on the Hudson River.
